The new facility, which has received some grant from the US Agency for International Development (USAID), will manufacture garment accessories, including hangers, patches and woven labels.
The Athi River facility, its Africa headquarters, boasts state-of-the-art features, including solar-powered lights and post lights crafted from bamboo, demonstrating Nexgen’s dedication to renewable energy sources and eco-friendly construction, the company said on its website.
This commitment to sustainability has earned the facility the prestigious EDGE certifications for Green building practices.
The investment is expected to significantly enhance Kenya's apparel export capabilities, particularly to the United States thus, contributing to the nation's foreign earnings.
The opening event will be accompanied by a ‘Made in Kenya’ expo, showcasing 14 Kenyan apparel and textile businesses that have benefitted directly from US support.
Nexgen Packaging manufactures in 19 countries. The new facility will complement its existing operations in Ethiopia, Egypt and West Africa.
