Two Siblings Launch Faherty Brand, a Shore-Inspired Clothing Brand

Faherty Brand collections include clothing, swimwear and home decor

Spring Lake natives Mike and Alex Faherty, identical twins, had just turned 30 in 2013 when they founded Faherty Brand, a beach-themed line inspired by their lifestyle.

Growing up, summer days were always the same: pork roll, egg and cheese sandwiches for breakfast, then off to the beach for swimming, boogie boarding and surfing.

As kids, the brothers dreamt of owning a clothing line, but forged their own paths. Alex went into investment banking; he now manages the brand’s finances. Mike worked at Ralph Lauren, and uses skills he learned there to design every product, including the fabrics, entirely from scratch. Most of the apparel is unstructured and hangs loosely, evoking a vintage, weathered look.

The brand uses repurposed materials and organic cotton for designs such as the All Day Short, fashioned from a proprietary fabric made of recycled plastic bottles, cotton and elastin. It’s lightweight, quick drying and has a four-way stretch, creating a well-fitting style. “We love the feeling of comfort that comes with a great vacation and we try to design collections that offer the same feelings,” says Alex.
