Images of Israeli boy scouts’ shirts on sale in Saudi Arabia have caused controversy with social media users saying they are being sold as a result of the policy of normalisation which Riyadh is pursuing with Tel Aviv.

The images surfaced after an unnamed Saudi citizen purchased a shirt from a commercial store in the Jizan province only to discover that it had the Israeli flag and Hebrew writing sewn onto it.

The citizen has filed an official complaint with the Saudi Ministry of Commerce and Investment.

“I really did not expect this speed, selling everything for Israel in Saudi Arabia for what, I do not know? Israeli military clothing is sold in the Saudi markets, especially in Jizan and Riyadh. What is left of the land of the two holy mosques for Muslims?” Egyptian journalist, Hossam El-Shorbagy wrote on his official Twitter account mistaking the scouts’ uniforms for army fatigues.

Saudi Foreign Minister, Adel Al-Jubeir, has previously said that Arab and Islamic countries would recognise Israel and establish relations with it once a permanent solution was reached for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

In a sarcastic tweet, the spokesperson to the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, Ofir Gendelman, wrote: “Israeli clothes spark terror in the Arab world.”
