Popular fashion retailer Mango to open new shop in Cardiff city centre
The brand has taken over the former Deichmann store in St David's shopping centre
Fashion retailer Mango will be returning to Cardiff city centre taking over a vacant unit in St David's Dewi Sant. Often compared to high-street brands such as Zara, Mango is an independent Spanish fashion retailer known for its contemporary and Mediterranean-inspired clothing.
While the brand has a significant presence in Wales with concessions in department stores, it currently only has one other store in the country - in Broughton. The retailer announced its plans to expand its UK footprint earlier this year.
The new store is currently in the works and replaces the former Deichmann shoe shop that closed recently after operating out of St David's Shopping Centre since 2010.
Mango will join brands such as Zara and River Island on the first floor of Wales' largest shopping centre. Though they have operated out of Cardiff before, opening their first Welsh store on the ground floor in 2011.
The new Cardiff store is part of Mango's broader plan to open 20 new stores across the UK in 2025, aiming to enhance its presence and provide customers with a more accessible shopping experience.
St David’s Dewi Sant expanded in 2009, changing the landscape of the city centre and attracts more than 29 million visitors annually.
Spanning over 1.4 million square feet and housing more than 180 stores, the centre is home to high street chains like Primark, River Island, and New Look, alongside premium brands such as Hugo Boss, Vivienne Westwood, and Jo Malone.
It introduced several brands to Wales for the first time, including Apple, Lego, and John Lewis. Read the biggest stories in Wales first by signing up to our daily newsletter here
An exact opening date for Mango is yet to be announced, but the store is expected to offer a comprehensive range of fashion lines when it does open, including summer styles, linen collections, maternity and plus-size ranges, as well as accessories and footwear.
Nearby, the once-thriving Debenhams store, a staple of Cardiff city centre's shopping scene for decades, is now on the brink of vanishing completely as demolition work nears completion.
It stood as a retail landmark for an impressive 39 years, until the 242-year-old chain succumbed to administration in 2021.
