JCPenney parent company undergoing second wave of layoffs

Another round of layoffs is coming to Catalyst Brands LLC, the parent company of JCPenney.

Catalyst Brands was formed 2025 after the merger of JCPenney and the once-bankrupt Spark Group. Brands under the Catalyst umbrella include JCPenney, Brooks Brothers, Aéropostale, Eddie Bauer, Forever 21, Lucky Brand Jeans, and Nautica.

CNN reports the company is in an “early stage of integration.” In a statement, Catalyst said it has identified areas where “we can optimize our structure and roles” affecting 9% of its corporate roles.

JCPenney is also in the midst of closing a wave of stores. Eight stores are slated to close, including locations in California, Colorado, and West Virginia.
