Kozhikode: Even as Iran announced that it has released all the crew members, including 17 Indians aboard the captured cargo ship MSC Aries, father of one of the members, hailing from Ramanattukara here, alleged that a clear response was not yet received from the Indian Embassy regarding their safe return to India.
P V Viswanathan, father of Shyamnath, the second engineer in the ship, said that when he contacted the Mumbai headquarters of the Embassy, the authorities only confirmed that all the crew members were safe. However, nothing was communicated regarding their return to the country. .
He also alleged that the shipping company was not taking any initiative to send them back. Shyamnath’s contract with the company has ended, he said, adding that there are many other crew members on that ship in similar situation. They all are directed by the company to continue on the ship until a new crew joins. However, the company is not doing anything to make any replacement, he added.
He also demanded that the government and the embassy put pressure on the company to free the crew members.
Viswanathan also revealed that his son indicated the presence of Iran commandos on the ship even when that country claimed it had released the ship. Shyam informed that there was no scarcity of food on the ship, he added.
The ship is currently anchored within the Iran sea limits.
