Baseball Drops Both Games of Doubleheader Against Western Illinois

The Lindenwood baseball team (13-29, 6-11 OVC) dropped both games of its doubleheader with Western Illinois (10-28, 6-11 OVC) by scores of 7-1 and 2-0 respectively.

GAME ONE OVERVIEW
Western Illinois – 7, Lindenwood - 1

After a pair of scoreless innings from both teams to begin the game, Western Illinois got on the board first in the third with two runs, going up 2-0. The Lions threatened in the third with two runners on but were unable to push one across. Lindenwood finally broke through in the fifth as Coin Shea doubled home James Jett, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

Western Illinois answered right back with one in the sixth to regain its three-run advantage at 4-1. Despite the deficit, Eli Brown tossed a quality start, going six innings, giving up two earned runs and striking out five.

In the eighth, Lindenwood put two runners on once again, but were unable to draw closer. The Leathernecks blew the game open in the top of the ninth with a three-run homer to make the score 7-1, which would be the score of game one.

GAME TWO OVERVIEW
Western Illinois – 2, Lindenwood – 0
The Leathernecks took the lead in the fourth with a two out hit making the score 1-0. Lindenwood stranded a runner at third in the fifth and had two on in the sixth but were unable to tie the game as Western Illinois remained up by one headed to the seventh.

Lindenwood threatened in the seventh, but left the bases loaded and the score stayed 1-0. Western Illinois added to its lead in the eighth with a sacrifice fly, going up 2-0. The Lions were unable to get much going offensively on the day and fell by that score.
