Grand Hotel Palace Teams Up with TexCycle Greece for Textile Recycling Initiative
The five-star Grand Hotel Palace in Thessaloniki recently announced its partnership with TexCycle Greece, one of the largest used clothing collection companies, to recycle its textile waste.
Aiming to support its sustainable waste management approach, the hotel’s textile materials not suitable for donation, which include sheets, towels, aprons and work uniforms, will be recycled and given a second chance at life.
“The people of the Grand Hotel Palace make it a priority to care for the environment and reduce our environmental footprint through actions, synergies, and initiatives,” the hotel’s management said.
Promote recycling among guests and partners
Grand Palace will also place a collection bin on the hotel’s premises in order to encourage partners and visitors to recycle.
According to the hotel’s management, global production of textile products is estimated to be responsible for about 20 percent of global clean water pollution due to the color dye of products. It also has the fourth-largest impact on the environment and climate change, after household food and travel.
In response to this concern, TexCycle Greece has created Textile Eco Calculator, a calculation application that shows what the ecological savings are from placing textiles in collection bins. With this ecological calculator, the company gives users the opportunity to check exactly how much they want to recycle.
After recycling, the clothes and fabrics can be reused, reducing the need to produce new clothing and preventing disposal through recycling and energy recovery. More information about the calculator can be found here: https://texcycle.gr/eco-calculator/.
Grand Hotel Palace demonstrates a strong commitment to corporate social responsibility. Last year, the hotel planted 120 trees in Thessaloniki with each of them dedicated to the hotel’s 120 employees. Grand Palace is located at a central point at the entrance of Thessaloniki and has a total capacity of 243 rooms, while features 13 multi-purpose conference halls and meeting rooms.
TexCycle is a used clothing collection company which provides communities an easy, safe and convenient alternative way for throwing their used clothing. This partnership is the company’s first in the hospitality industry.
