The former home of style queen Georgina Weir, whose high-end fashion boutique, Le Louvre, once counted a famous opera singer among its customers, is for sale.
Abercromby’s director Jock Langley said the retail figure’s French-inspired taste was clear at 56 St Georges Rd, Toorak, listed with a price guide of $5.85m-$6.35m.
The current owner, who’s owned it for 27 years, was selling to upsize, and Mr Langley said it was a golden opportunity to buy in one of Melbourne’s most desirable streets.

“It’s surrounded by exceptionally expensive real estate, it’s a really good location. It’s very close to St Kevin’s and not far from St Catherine’s (schools),” Mr Langley said.
“They talk about St Georges Rd and Lansell Rd as being the premium roads in real estate, so it’s certainly a street many would aspire to live in.”
A Lansell Rd mansion has just been listed for a $40m-$44m price that would set a new benchmark for the suburb, Melbourne’s most expensive.
Ms Weir took over the running of her luxury fashion store from her mother, Lillian Wightman, who founded it in Ballarat in 1923.
The business once counted opera singer Dame Nellie Melba among its customers before it moved to Collins St and later South Yarra.
Under Ms Weir’s tenure, the store’s focus evolved from couture fashion to ready-to-wear pieces, and she is credited with helping to introduce big name international brands to Melbourne shoppers including Lagerfeld, Yves Saint Laurent and Georgio Armani.
Mr Langley said Ms Weir’s chic taste was clear in the three-level, four-bedroom home’s decor.
Features include formal sitting, living and dining rooms, open fireplaces and a kitchen equipped with Miele appliances.
Three bedrooms are on the upper level, including a main bedroom with a dressing room or private parents’ retreat leading out to a balcony.
Hydronic heating and commercial-grade airconditioning are modern updates, while the fourth bedroom, a gym and a laundry are tucked away on the lower sub-floor level.
“It’s got a very French-inspired renovation that she did when she was here, and the owners have further improved it,” Mr Langley said.
“It’s a very stylish house, it’s very welcoming. You immediately switch off when you walk in. And some of the improvements under her tenure have stood the test of time.”
The property has a forthcoming expressions of interest campaign.
