A former council house has now been transformed into a designer "palace" after couple decided they wanted to go "all bling" and deck it out in Chanel and Versace.

Matthew Gorman, Jane Heron and their four children moved into the terraced property four years ago when it was stained and "mucky" from its former inhabitants, they say.

But when lockdown hit they finally found themselves with the perfect chance to give it a makeover to their taste on a budget of £1,000.

Because of the shoestring budget they decided to focus on changing the small things, like decor and ornaments.

Among the trinkets on show in the home in Bransholme, Kingston-upon-Hull, are a Versace teaset, a Chanel rug and Chanel throws, Hull Live reports.

The couple are so proud of their bling makeover that they showed the results on a Facebook page dedicated to DIY projects on a budget - where it received thousands of likes and comments.

Matthew said: "We started it in the first lockdown when there was nothing much to do, and it was looking run down. My wife decided she wanted to go all 'bling'. She bought the wallpaper from budget shops like B and M, and B and Q, but we splashed out on the ornaments and cushions.

"We've got a Chanel rug in the hallway, a Versace tea set, and Chanel throws.

"Our friends and family absolutely love it, and people ask how it looks so nice with four kids in the house.

"The kids love it, they think it's like a palace," he said.

The couple did all the work themselves, renovating the previously-shabby living room, hallway, kitchen, stairs and landing. They're turning their attentions to the bedrooms next, and continuing with their bling theme.

The hallway has the same grey tones as the living room, with a large clock and a Chanel doormat.

Designer touches are scattered throughout, such as an eye-catching silver occasional table with a Chanel-branded flower holder, complete with a bunch of fake cream roses.

Lucky Carla Shaw is set to jet off on honeymoon with her childhood sweetheart hubby after scooping £30,000 playing People's Postcode Lottery.

The mum-of-two, 47, won after her postcode IP28 7DQ, in Mildenhall, Suffolk, was announced as a winner. She said: "I don’t think I’ve been this happy since my wedding day!"

People’s Postcode Lottery costs £10 a month to play and there are guaranteed winners every day. People play with their chosen postcode and are automatically entered into all draws.

Sparkly silver table placemats and elaborate vases complete the decadent design.

Matthew said: "When we got the house it had been lived in by an old couple and was tea-stained and mucky, and not decorated to our taste.

"We've taken ideas and tips from the Internet, such as using cut-up fabric on the stair risers, and a wood effect lino flooring in the hall which looks like real wood. It's all been done on a budget but looks expensive.
