Gallery Gondwana Fiji director and artist Rusiate Lali is looking to introduce a clothing line business soon.

Mr Lali is well known as a multi-media artist and wants to promote other artists as well as his own work.

He is from Lomanikoro, Rewa and has maternal links to Mokani in Tailevu.

Coming from a long lineage of potters, carvers, tapa cloth and fibre artists, Mr Lali  says he is excited to exhibit his work.

Last month, he opened a gallery on Denarau Island which showcases Melanesian aesthetics imprinted with modernist expressions.

“Some of the drawing will be placed on the clothing which can be bought by a lot of people,” he said.

“This is to complement the art which I have been doing. There is no harm increasing products and services.”

Gallery Gondwana Fiji targets upmarket art lovers.

The gallery is operated by the artist himself.

“The art is for those serious upmarket art lovers who are after authentic and providence in the work,” he said.

“There is huge demand in this business and it is something like an investment which is equal to real estate.”

Mr Lali in 1999 was named the contemporary Fijian artist of the year.

He has a number of solo and group exhibitions under his belt, and a body of work that continues to grow.

“At the moment, I have pushed all the arts made by my families only but will also allow local artist to exhibit their work here too,” he said.

Mr Lali’s stepped into the high-end fashion world of London in 2016.

The following year saw his exhibition showcased the effects of climate change in the Pacific as the opening of the 13th London Pacific Fashion Week.
