Dan Evans has been dumped by sports apparel company Ellesse after the British No3 tennis player revealed he had tested positive for cocaine in April.

The World No 50 was given a provisional suspension by the International Tennis Federation, and could face a ban of up to four years.

Evans has insisted that the substance was taken ‘out of competition and the context was completely unrelated to tennis’ during a public apology last Friday.

But Ellesse, who only recently signed a deal with Evans in March, announced they had terminated their contract.

A statement read: “Ellesse today announces, with regret, the decision to end its sponsorship of Dan Evans.''

''Dan has shown great promise on the court and has been a valued member of the ellesse team, however we cannot condone the lifestyle choices he has made and are therefore withdrawing his sponsorship.''

The suspension means Evans, 27, will miss this year’s Wimbledon Championship which begin on July 3.
