Melania Trump changes into a black and gold embroidered coat for her arrival in Italy on Air Force One - but Ivanka sticks with the same white frock she wore in Israel hours before

  • Melania, 47, and her husband, President Donald Trump, arrived at the Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport in Rome on Tuesday evening
  • The First Lady donned a black coat featuring gold embroidery around its collar and cuffs and classic black pumps
  • Earlier in the day, she modeled a sleeveless, A-line dress by Roksanda as she joined her husband at a Holocaust memorial in Israel
  • Ivanka, 35, opted for a $5,690 Oscar de la Renta frock featuring long sleeves to show respect for her Jewish faith and its dress codes
  • Unlike her stepmother, Ivanka did not change her clothes during their Air Force One flight from Israel to Italy

Melania Trump opted for an outfit change before landing in Italy on Tuesday with her husband, President Donald Trump.

The 47-year-old First Lady started the day in a $2,730 white dress by Roksanda, but she changed into a black coat featuring gold embroidery around its collar and cuffs on Air Force One after the aircraft left Israel in the afternoon.

Trump and his wife waved as they stepped out of Air Force one upon landing at the Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport in Rome on Monday evening.

Melania accessorized her somber look with a pair of dark sunglasses, swapping her nude Manolo Blahniks heels from the morning for some classic black pumps.

While she chose to change ahead of their arrival, her stepdaughter Ivanka stepped off Air Force One in the same $5,690 long sleeve frock by Oscar de la Renta that she had on when she boarded the aircraft in Israel.

Melania and Ivanka  both donned ethereal white frocks to visit Israel's Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem with the president on Tuesday before the flew to Italy.

The First Lady modeled a sleeveless, A-line dress that skimmed her calves, while Ivanka, 35, opted for a modest long sleeve frock to show respect for her Jewish faith and its strict dress codes.

Ivanka converted to Judaism in 2009 when she married Jared, who comes from an Orthodox family, and the two looked on in silence and held hands during the somber visit.

While Melania opted to change into something new, Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner stepped off Air Force once in the same clothes they wore earlier in the day

Like her stepmother's ensemble, Ivanka's demure lace dress also reached her calves, and both women accessorized their stark white frocks with sky-high nude pumps.

Unlike the day before, Ivanka opted not to cover her hair, and instead, she wore her blonde locks down in loose waves around her shoulders in a style similar to her stepmother's.

However, Ivanka added a pair of statement Dannijo earrings to her ladylike ensemble, while Melania wore very little jewelry aside from her wedding band.

Keeping with Jewish law, Trump and his son-in-law Jared both wore black kippahs clipped in their hair as a sign of respect.

The museum commemorates the six million Jews killed by the Nazis during World War II, and during their visit, President Trump delivered a solemn message of remembrance and a defiant pledge of 'never again'.

'Words can never describe the bottomless depths of that evil, or the scope of the anguish and destruction,' the president said of the last century's Nazi atrocities. 'It was history's darkest hour.'

'It was the most savage crime against God and his children, and it is our solemn duty to remember, to mourn, to grieve and to honor every single life that was so cruelly and viciously taken,' he said.

'Only when we remember the families who were torn apart from everyone they loved, who suffered that terrible darkness and evil, who endured the unbearable horror of the Holocaust, only then can we prevent this agony from ever repeating.'

The Holocaust, planned and perpetrated during World War II by Adolph Hitler and his National Socialist German Workers' Party – the Nazis – aimed to exterminate the Jewish race through a series of death camps.

Trump was also invited to 'rekindle' an eternal flame at Yad Vashem, and after the ceremony he went outside to sign the Yad Vashem guest book, silently leaving an inscription that took him more than a minute to write.

Melania followed him to the book, inscribing a briefer message for less than 10 seconds.

While at Yad Vashem, he was presented with a replica of a Holocaust-era personal album that belonged to the 16-year-old Ester Goldstein, one of the Holocaust's victims.

Her surviving sister, Margot Herschenbaum, attended the ceremony.

The somber 12-minute ceremony came after the Trumps returned from the West Bank, where the president met with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.

The president headed afterward to the Israel Museum to give deliver a speech about Middle East peace.

The family then traveled to Ben Gurion International Airport for Trump's departure ceremony, which was attended by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara.

After their flight to Italy, they will be spending Wednesday in Vatican City where the president will have a meeting with Pope Francis.

Meanwhile, Ivanka will take part in a discussion about human trafficking in Rome with the Community of Sant'Egidio, an aid group with ties to the Vatican.

She is also expected to join the  meeting with the Pope.

Orthodox Jewish dress codes for women

The Jewish dress code is influenced by the Torah, with an emphasis on modesty.

Orthodox Jews train their girls from a very young age to dress modestly.

Orthodox Jewish women tend to wearing clothing that is not too bright or tight fitting, with sleeves that cover the elbows and skirts that cover the knees.

Orthodox Jewish women wear long skirts because pants are forbidden for women according to most opinions in Jewish law.

In some communities, women wear socks, tights, or stockings as well, but it is not a universal practice among Orthodox women.

Married Jewish women typically cover their hair as a sign that they are no longer single.

'But there was no need to be ashamed of tears, for tears bore witness that a man had the greatest of courage, the courage to suffer,' she wrote, quoting Viktor E. Frankl.

'Few places in the world inspire me more to that calling,' she explained. 'As we remember this dark moment in history of Jewish and human suffering, let us recommit to never forget the lessons of the Holocaust.

'Let us have the courage to unite and stand up for decency and humanity in every corner of the world. And let us be brave in opposing injustices - in all forms - that ignore the lessons so vividly on display here at Yad Vashem.'

Although Melania and Ivanka wore similar outfits on Tuesday, their looks were strikingly different the day before.

Ivanka traded her typical floral frocks for a modest black and navy long-sleeve, high-necked top and a navy pleated skirt by Cédric Charlier, as she and Jared watched the arrival ceremony for President Trump at Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv on Monday.

In keeping with the dress codes of her Jewish faith, the former businesswoman wore dark colors, sporting a longer hemline that grazed her calves - a marked difference from the thigh-skimming dresses she has been pictured wearing in recent weeks.

The First Daughter also kept her head covered with a navy fascinator and wore a pair of simple black pumps from her own eponymous fashion line.

She accessorized her outfit with a black clutch and had her hair pulled back in an elegant chignon at the nape of her neck.

The mother-of-three complemented her husband, who sported a navy suit, and they both wore similar black framed sunglasses as they stood alongside National Security Advister H.R. McMaster, White House press secretary Sean Spicer, and White House chief economic adviser Gary Cohn ahead of Trump's arrival.

The couple was later photographed attending a press conference at the President's Residence in Jerusalem.

They then joined President Trump and First Lady Melania on visits to the Church of Holy Sepulchre and the Western Wall, the holiest prayer site in Judaism.

Ivanka and Melania were both photographed touching the wall, although the First Lady wore an all-white white skirt suit with bright red shoes and, unlike her stepdaughter, opted not to cover her hair for the visit.

Earlier in the day, Ivanka expressed her excitement about visiting Israel following what she called an 'amazing and historic' trip to Saudi Arabia.

The First Daughter took to social media to post a picture of her father delivering a speech as she sits behind him.

'We had an amazing and historic visit in Saudi Arabia. I am excited to continue our trip in Israel, she captioned the image.

Trump's eldest daughter will be with her dad for six of the nine days of the trip, which started in Saudi Arabia.

Both Ivanka and Melania declined to cover their heads during Trump's first visit to the kingdom, despite the president's previous criticism of former First Lady Michelle Obama, who also refused to don a head scarf.

On Sunday, Ivanka chose to wear a very modest baby blue Escada pantsuit, perhaps channeling her father's former political rival, ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Melania wore pants, wearing a black and white ensemble, complete with a pussy bow, a favorite look for the former model.
