The sale whisperer: Melbourne's best shopping December 7-14

Updated

During this busy time of year, anything that helps cut down on time spent in traffic or looking for a park is good news. So imagine our glee when we heard that some of Australia's biggest shoe brands are holding a sale under the one roof? That's right, Django & Juliette, Mollini, Diana Ferrari and more brands will have styles starting from $20, or six pairs for $100.

592-594 High Street, Epping. Thursday-Sunday 10am-5pm.

In the midst of the active wear boom in 2014, school friends Vera Yan and Katia Santill had a crazy idea to create a label that offered fashionable, functional workout and lifestyle gear that was sensibly priced.

The pair, who were raised in Melbourne but now live in Sydney, had experience in corporate law (Yan) and fashion, with brands including Puma and Burberry (Santill).

With that good grounding, they launched Nimble with a small collection that they sold to online retailers including The Iconic and Stylerunner.

But the pair realised they needed their own retail presence, opening their first store in Bondi, and, now, High Street.

While there are other stores selling active wear on the strip, Nimble's prints are a strong drawcard, as well as the price tags: most items are $100 or less.

When other big-name brands are selling tights for close to $150, with no proven performance superiority, Nimble is creating waves in the market.

Our favourites include the leopard print tights, in a soft stretch, and the "moto tights", which are modelled on your favourite moto-style jeans.

#inthecart: 'raw' jeans

If you're a regular reader of my Sunday columns, you will know I have been on a bit of a "clean" denim journey, especially after watching the documentary Blue and listening to podcasts by my fellow fashion writer and friend, Clare Press.

It's time for me to buy a new pair of jeans and my new year's fashion resolution is I won't consciously buy denim that is distressed, ripped or faded – unless it got that way through age alone.

There are plenty of styles that celebrate the use of raw or selvedge denim and don't harm the planet as much as distressed styles. So, who's with me?
